Cambridge IELTS 16

Many manufactured food and drink products contain high levels of sugar, which causes many health problems. Sugary products should be made more expensive to encourage people to consume less sugar. Do you agree or disagree?

The food and beverages industry is thriving with the launches of tastier and convenience-oriented food items. Most of these items are loaded with sugar, causing multiple health hazards. Some people believe that making sugar-rich products very costly can be a step towards solving this problem. However, I do not concur with this statement, and the following paragraphs will justify my point of view.

Making highly sweetened eatables more expensive will not solve the problem of excessive consumption of sugary food items, for such kind of food is nearly addictive. Consequently, the people who are fond of these will most probably continue to eat despite being compelled to spend more money. Moreover, since standardization is impossible in this field, there is no way to decide the cost of edibles is high.

Additionally, with the recent boost in the economy, the paying power of people has increased. The higher and higher-middle classes are the biggest purchasers of these items, and these have become a part of their lives. An increase in cost will not deter these people from indulging in their favourite food. Secondly, the price of food can not be increased beyond a limit as it is, after all, food only.

However, some steps can be taken to regulate the consumption of this food, and the most effective is to spread awareness about the possible severe health issues that regular consumption may cause.

In conclusion, the extravagant use of sugar is the cause of numerous bothering diseases and issues in the world: obesity, hypertension, and lethargy. I firmly believe that a price increase can not lower the production, distribution, and intake of sugary food and drinks.

In today’s digital age, anyone with a smartphone can capture and share photographs. This accessibility to photography diminishes the value of professional photographers.

To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Clicking and circulating photographs has become effortless, as today, almost everyone has a smartphone. It is believed that this development declines the importance of professional photographers. I do not concur with this point of view, for I believe professional photography is still as popular as before, as people still regularly seek the services of professional photographers.

Professional photographers have been sought by people to capture special moments during celebrations. Their services have been in demand for personal and professional celebrations and landmark events. Even though these days, most people have smartphones, which they use for clicking photos, they have not proved to be a fitting substitute for expert professional assistance due to the fineness introduced to the photographs by professionals.

Photography is an intricate and elaborate job. Most can not click as good photographs as an expert and professional photographer. The photographs clicked on special occasions remind people of their good times. Therefore, since people want lifelong beautiful memories in the form of pictures, they still seek professional services.

Furthermore, when people attend personal and professional functions with their friends, family members or colleagues, they do not want the hassle of clicking photographs. Thus, outsourcing the services allows them to enjoy memorable moments with their near and dear ones and be more present in the moment. Not only this, but the effort of segregating, storing and developing photographs can be demanding, and most people still prefer the services offered by professional photographers.

Therefore, people use their phones to click day-to-day photographs, but they solicit professionals to click snapshots of select merriments as would happen before the smartphone era.

Many doctors are concerned about the high use of computer games by children and young people. What are the advantages and disadvantages of children playing computer games?

Physicians have been raising concerns regarding the rise in young people and children playing computer-based games. There are merits and demerits in equal measures of the increase in playing computer games among children. I will mention a few merits and demerits of this trend in the following paragraphs.

There are some advantages of children playing computer games. The primary benefit of children playing computerised games is that they can learn the complexities and intricacies of software and hardware elements of computers and computer networks. This knowledge is gained when one indulges in playing computer games regularly. This knowledge can help children in future as knowledge of computers is a significant skill in today’s world. Secondly, it has been observed that some computer games help children develop their focus and develop some academic acumen. Games such as Tetris and DragonBox help improve one’s logical, mathematical, language and analytical skills.

On the other hand, there are some demerits to playing computer games, especially playing these games too much.
First, playing these games can be addictive, and children may start wasting too much time playing them and stop devoting sufficient time to their studies and other vital activities, for example, playing outdoor games and spending time with members and peer groups. Moreover, too much exposure to computer screens can be hazardous to a child’s health. For instance, it can cause severe harm to a child’s eyes and can cause anxiety-related issues.

In conclusion, while there are advantages, there can be extreme drawbacks for children if there is an increase in playing computerised games by them. Therefore, there should be supervision on the type and amount of such games children indulge in.
