Young people committing criminalities and getting away with it has been a concern lately. Thus, some believe one should be punished irrespective of their age. I assert that people of lesser age must not be allowed to get away with crime, especially if the nature of the crime is heinous.
First, the increasing crime in most nations has been massively bothering. It has been seen that there has been a significant hike in the number of juvenile offenses. Juveniles are involved in heinous crimes like rapes, killings, and bank robberies. Many have been repeating offenders, for they are not strictly accounted for as the punishments are usually mild. Research suggests most wicked criminals are involved in small unlawful activities or mischief early in life but get away as the law tackles child offenders mildly. Later these people become bigger criminals and beset the system; thus, offenses at a young age should be taken seriously, and they should be tackled harshly, especially if they are grave.
Today children mature early in life due to more exposure brought to life because of the enormous presence of social media, the internet, and television broadcasts in our lives. Juveniles sometimes get motivation or ideas to commit crimes from these sources. Nevertheless, due to this exposure, most juvenile criminals are well aware of and understand the gravity and impact of their offenses. Also, some argue that if a so-called child is grown up enough to commit a crime, that person is also grown up enough to be punished like any other adult. Not just this, when a criminal is allowed to be free, the victims and their relatives feel cheated by the law.
To sum up, crimes must be handled sternly to maintain law and order, irrespective of the age of a criminal.Swaatii Sehgal
