We get information about the world and current affairs from news channels, newspapers, and online portals. However, in the last few years, the credibility of journalists has become questionable. This essay aims at discussing why most people believe most journalists are unreliable. Furthermore, I aim to describe the desired traits of a successful journalist.
Journalists have failed to get the kind of respect they would get formerly. Earlier, journalism would be considered noble, for journalists would expose immorality and wrong happenings in society. However, now most people feel that journalists are no more honest and corruption-free. They are involved in immoral, for the rich and powerful can manipulate the news stories to benefit them with the help of journalists. A general perception is that the correspondent obtains monetary and other advantages in return for such favours. In addition, journalists are also believed to resort to malpractices to handle the excessive competition they face in this field. Every news channel or website wants to share breaking news before others; consequently, sensational news stories are presented without fact-checking or research.
A successful journalist must be truthful and committed to passing on the stories without modification. Their stories should become the voice of the poor and sufferers in society. Such journalists garner respect from one and all.
Finally, it is a fact that journalists are not as trusted as before due to journalism used to be filled in with people having literary bends.
