The range of technology available to people is increasing the gap between the rich and the poor. Others think it has an opposite effect. Discuss both views and give your opinions.

Advancement in technology has provided many means and comfort to the human population. However, it has been seen that this development has impacted the wealthy and the poor both. While some believe it has bridged the gap between two classes, others feel it has widened it. As far as I am concerned, I believe this development has widened the gap between the two. However, I shall analyze both arguments before offering my point of view.

Indeed, technology has progressed, but many benefits are only available to financially comfortable people. It is because either using the highly technical items requires more technical knowledge, or these facilities are pricey. For example, a high-end and highly technically enabled car can not be afforded by most. Earlier there wasn’t much difference between the kind of vehicles rich and not-so-rich people would drive. A similar situation can be quoted for high-end mobile phones and other facilities available.

Some aspects of this growth have certainly benefitted the underprivileged and given them a chance to upscale their life, ultimately bridging the void between rich and poor. For example, now, children of poor families can study from the best teachers on portals like youtube. Additionally, they can collect information about universities and new courses and enhance their skills. Any type of learning for almost no cost has been possible due to progress in the Internet and related services. Such factors have helped cover the difference between the upper and lower classes.

To sum up, there has been much growth due to science and technology. I wish to assert that this growth has only widened the gap between the rich and the poor as the benefits of these developments are limited to a few people, the ones that have the power of money. It makes people from the lower strata crave what others have more intensely, leading to unrest and unhappiness in society.
