The crime rate, in most countries, is often higher in urban areas than in rural areas. Why do you think that is? What can be done to reduce the crime rate?

Demographic data suggest that criminality is more in cities than in villages. The following paragraphs aim at analyzing the reasons behind this development and coming up with some solutions.

There have always been mass migrations from towns and villages to cities in search of better lifestyles, education, and job opportunities. These newcomers sometimes have unrealistically big dreams and are oblivious to the ways of life in cities. Sometimes, struggles in cities exhaust some immigrants. Due to the above factors, it becomes easier for criminal masterminds to misguide these naive people and use them to do illegal activities for themselves. Sometimes, a casual, small, or seemingly harmless act land people in the never-ending ditch of crime, and an irreversible process of disgrace starts in their life.

Moreover, the population density in cities is high, and the cost of living is far more than in rural areas. Life is very fast-paced, and everyone wishes to achieve success rapidly. It has also been experienced that people’s emotions are not honoured, so they become vulnerable. These factors also have a hand in ascending unlawful activities in urban areas. On the other hand, inhabitants in rural areas have a simple life, and people connect emotionally with one another.

However, a few steps can improve the situation. First, the governments must develop rural regions and build better medical and education infrastructure. Uniformity in the development of rural and metropolitan areas can curtail migration reducing urban crime. People should also learn to be satisfied with what they have and be ready to work hard to achieve their dreams. Trying to find shortcuts to succeed can land them in trouble and hurt civil society.
