Feedbacks are necessary for an organization or an individual to motivate, make amends and improve. However, whether students should be allowed to offer feedback to their teachers or not is a debatable issue. In the following paragraphs, I will discuss both sides before concluding.
Some people believe that a teacher or trainer must be provided with feedback so that teaching may improve. These people feel that similar to everyone else, a teacher is prone to make mistakes and may wish to enhance teaching methodologies. A teacher’s students are the best people as to what improvement is required to how the teacher teaches or treats the learners. It will ensure improvement in teaching and the teacher-student relationship.
On the other hand, some believe that if students are allowed to assess their teachers and their performances, it might affect a student-teacher relationship adversely, for this association is based on extreme respect and trust as one imparts and the other receives education. A teacher is always superior to a student, especially while teaching. Another reason such a practice should be discouraged is that a student may not always be capable of offering a rational comment, especially if the student is young. Sometimes some mischievous or unruly children may give feedback that may discourage the teacher or degrade the dignity of the teaching profession.
Finally, I believe that the concept of feedback seems reasonable since a teacher needs to know how others view their teaching capabilities. However, the implementation must be done carefully, as teaching is highly respectable, and the teacher-student relationship is the most pious one. Some students may be selected by the teacher seeking feedback, or some other teachers may be asked to offer a detailed assessment.
