Some people believe that if the police force carries guns, it can encourage a higher level of violence. To what extent do agree or disagree?

Police officers carry guns, for guns help them assert their power over mischievous people; however, it is believed that the police force carrying firearms can give rise to more violence. I agree with this statement.

Indeed, police must be able to check for any misdeeds around them, so they need arms and ammunition. Pistols are especially needed when they control a mob or tackle an armed offender; therefore, it is essential for a policeman or policewoman to have arms, for it helps them save people, which is the job they have been recruited into the police department.

However, firstly, carrying a handgun is a massive responsibility because a slightly miscalculated use of it can be fatal for someone innocent. Secondly, so much power in one’s hand can dellusionize that person, and that person may use it only to show off his position, to scare others, or prove his superiority. In other words, the gun is, after all, a deadly weapon, and a tiny mistake or a wrong decision can cause a tremendous problem. Recently, a policeman shot at one of the health ministers in India. The minister suffered a fatal injury and passed away after a few days. Later, it was found that the culprit, the policeman, was suffering from a mental disorder. Thus, thirdly, if an officer has a mental challenge, the chances of misuse of a gun are all the more.
