Some nations have imposed legal prohibitions against drinking alcohol below a certain age. However, others do not believe in having stringent laws about the minimum age for drinking.
This essay aims at discussing both sides of the argument and concludes.
Drinking is not just injurious to one’s health, it can be highly addictive and may rob a person of sound judgment. Drinking must be a highly mindful activity. If there is no defined age, youngsters may indulge in drinking and start ignoring their health. Their studies are sure to suffer if they become habitual drinkers. In some cases, a child may be robbed of childhood and innocence. That is why most nations have such laws with strict implementation of these laws. For example, the minimum legal age of alcohol intake is 18 years in India, while it is 21 years in the USA.
However, a few nations believe that there is either no need to have rules about it, or there is of no use to define, for it is an activity that is hard to control as most young people drink when they are with friends or family members either at homes or other indoor venues. Also, probably, they believe that even a child is wise enough to make the right decisions in life, and imposing any laws is meaningless. Another reason, some governments may feel that laws should not be imposed on the personal lives of people and that people should manage their health and issues themselves.
