Some argue that patriotism is the primary cause of wars globally. Others feel that it serves to prevent less ethical politicians from running a country and starting wars. Discuss both views and give your opinion.

Many attribute wars to love for one’s nation, while others acknowledge wars are initiated by unethical and selfish leaders. This essay aims at analyzing both arguments and comes up with a conclusion. Although, I feel the second option is more responsible for battles between nations. I take this opportunity to analyze both views before concluding.

First, nations fight with other countries when they feel there could be a threat because of another country. Normally, countries fight to save their land, integrity, and sovereignty.
Armed forces fight to the death to save the honour of their countries. Only a highly patriotic person can think of staying away from their family, fighting, killing, and dying for their country.

On the other hand, some believe wars are not a result of a love of a country, but a few powerful but inconsiderate leaders are behind such wars. Wars can not be conducive for any country, for warfare always leads to losing life and property. Thus, a patriot can not want their nation to be in a state of violent conflict, for it can only cause loss to their country and countrymen. Generally, wars are fought to elevate the positions of some generals and leaders of a country since they utilize the burning emotions of the citizens to convert these emotions into a wave in favour of the current supreme leaders of that nation. These leaders influence the people of their country by making hate speeches against the enemy nation and showing that they are working for the safety of their country, thereby winning the support and sympathy of their fellow countrypeople, which helps promote their careers on the national and international stages.

To sum up, I believe there are powerful forces behind wars, for no nationalist would want their country to recede by throwing all its resources into battles against other countries when most of them have atomic and nuclear powers. Finally, I wish to assert that wars happen to fulfill the selfish mottos of a few.
