Schools should use films, computers, and games instead of books. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

t has been suggested that digital media is better for teaching school students than print media. I do not fully agree with this stance, for schools must ensure students refer to books more than digital sources for their learning. I shall justify my point of view by quoting some scientific research and examples from my own experiences.

Scientific researchers claim it is easier to focus on a printed page, especially when one reads or tries to understand complex content. Reading from a page and turning pages back and forth helps a student concentrate better while scrolling the content on a screen does not help a student focus on the content. Books have an old-world charm, for reading and preserving an old book in a reading space gives a sense of belongingness to a person, a feeling found missing in digital media. Therefore, many take pride in their collection of books, for books are considered a great company.

Moreover, the radiation emitted from screens has been found dangerous for students’ eyesight. Not just this, their mental health and peace are also affected adversely, for research proves that prolonged exposure to screens and radiation can cause anxiety, mood swings, and loss of concentration. Additionally, such a step may encourage the use of gadgets for children not just at school but at home. This trend has many drawbacks, as children quickly become addicted to browsing online and offline content on a computer.

To sum up, schools must give preference to books when compared to films, videos, etc. However, both should be used judiciously depending on effectiveness.
