Research has shown that spending less time in the office can reduce the use of energy (for example, electricity, and gas). Thus some companies close for some days a week. Do the advantages of this development outweigh the disadvantages?

Working from home has helped organizations curtail their expenses by cutting down electricity bills and travel-related expenses. Therefore, some companies have been choosing to close their office premises for a few days each week. I believe this change has more benefits, for it can help save funds and allow people to work more efficiently.

The recent culture of working from home has worked in favour of corporations and staff. Businesses can save funds as they may save rent, electricity bills, and support staff. In addition, the employees also prefer this mode as they can amount and time spent on traveling. Since expenses have been one of the major concerns for companies, allowing employees to work from home has been more frequently preferred by companies. During COVID, almost everyone worked from their homes, and since then, working from home has become more acceptable and frequent.
On the downside, the practice of not coming to the office at work has been questioned by many due to many reasons. First, it has been observed that sometimes, issues take longer to resolve due to communication gaps arising; as a result, colleagues and teams are not as approachable as they are when people work beside one another in the same building, and one can directly walk to a person with their concerns. Secondly, one may frequently experience distractions at home, leading to errors seeping into deliverables. However, businesses can handle the above-mentioned issues by taking a few steps.

Given the above arguments, working from home a few days each week can help organisations slash their costs and favour employees too. Therefore, the benefits of a hybrid model with regular work from home outweigh the benefits of working at the office without an option of work from home.
