Today, it is possible to avail all the facilities and luxuries of life if a nation focuses on its financial advancement. However, it is also believed that the values of social and public importance may be at stake if there is too much concentration on economic development. I believe betterment in the economy can improve one’s standard of life, but if there is mindless development, it can not result in the overall development of human beings.
Everyone wants affluence and better facilities, such as good hospitals, modern sources of entertainment, transportation facilities, and better opportunities for higher education, employment, and growth in life. Yet, there is more to life on this planet. If a person has all the facilities of the world but does not have good relations or love in life, they may be unhappy. Secondly, people are sometimes ready to resort to unlawful and immoral acts to defeat others.
Furthermore, too much emphasis on technical and economic progress has shown many side effects, for there has been compromise with traditional values, family values, and relationships, and there has been a rise in corruption. A mindless rush for progress has led to violent conflicts between nations where the nations have been attacking each other for oil and other precious natural resources. These factors lead to depletion in society and stress and anxiety in people.
To sum up, although financial progress is vital, it happens at the cost of various other life aspects, such as relationships between people and nations or the traditional values of a society. It can not be considered advancement in the true sense, for financial development can only ensure material things and external luxury, which can satisfy the ego of an individual or a country, but it can not ensure internal satisfaction and growth.
