Nowadays, more people are choosing to socialize online rather than face to face. Is this a positive or negative development?

Social media has become too famous, and most of us are today highly active on social media; consequently, most people today do not meet others person-to-person. Is it disadvantageous or advantageous? I believe it has advantages and disadvantages, but the merits are far more than the disadvantages. I will justify my thought in the following paragraphs.

Changing times bring change in behaviours of people and social set up. Social media has proved to be the revolution in society that altered the way people had been interacting. It gave us the power to communicate faster with anyone anywhere in the world. It became possible to see the live updates of our friends and relatives; people can be. Not just this, it is now possible to be in contact with school and college friends years after they leave these institutes. All these provisions were unimaginable a few years back. It can surely be said that social media is no less than a boon. Not just this, official contacts can be maintained on sites such as LinkedIn; such sites help many find jobs and expand their professional network.

The aforementioned is just one side of the coin. The other side is that people have stopped meeting each other in person. As a result, some people believe there is not as much warmth in relationships as there used to be. In fact, instead of group meetings have replaced family and friends gatherings. However, I feel this is just changing times, and it is an inevitable change.

To sum up, Social media has a few minor drawbacks but has numerous benefits when it comes to maintaining social relationships.
