Nowadays, more and more people decide to have children later in their life. What do you think are the reasons for this? Do the advantages of this trend outweigh the disadvantages?

Many couples today do not wish to have offspring early in life. There are a few reasons behind this change in trend, and according to me, it is more disadvantageous than beneficial for people and their children. The following paragraphs will discuss the causes followed by demerits and merits of this development.

First, people, especially women, are more career-oriented than before. People have to put in a lot more hard work in their careers than before due to the rise in competition and cost of living. Most wish to spend their late twenties and early thirties climbing the ladder of careers. People want to start their families only once they have financial freedom and abundance. Also, some people desire to spend quality time with their spouses before starting their families. They want to travel and enjoy life before taking up the responsibility of rearing a child.

There are many reasons why I consider this trend to be not just disadvantageous but also risky for everyone. First, this trend is not per a woman’s biological clock. As a woman gets old, especially if she is over 35 years, getting pregnant and pregnancy becomes difficult. Also, a child born to an aged female has more chances of chromosomal conditions like down syndrome. Not just this, it is a challenge to bring up a child when one is not too young for stamina to subside quickly. A couple can take help from their parents if they choose to expand their family at a young age; however, if parental support is unavailable, external aid for little children can be availed.

To sum up, due to increased inclination towards enjoying life and climbing the ladder of career, people have started delaying having children. However, though people get ample time for themselves; life partners; and careers, they miss out on enjoying one of the greatest blessings of life on time in a healthy way.
