Many old buildings protected by law are part of a nation’s history. Some people think they should be knocked down and replaced by new ones. Do you agree or disagree?

Ancient buildings are protected and maintained by governments. Some people, though, feel there is no point in putting effort into maintaining old buildings. Though these activities require a lot of planning and finances, I believe old monuments must be duly taken care of, so I do not concur with the given statement.

Humans are naturally connected to their past and feel a sense of attachment to their past. A human is a product of what their history was. This link with their past is vital for a person. Thus, the remains from the past give a person his identity. These buildings also make us understand our past, which helps in future progress.

Moreover, governments invest in maintaining only the buildings that have value for future generations. Such monuments are carefully chosen by experts. Also, these monuments stand tall as symbols of the rich heritage of a community or a country.

One great benefit of preserving these properties is that they are major tourist attractions. People and researchers travel to historical cities a lot to watch the glory of historical monuments. These properties and historical cities receive heavy traffic from tourists and contribute to the economy of a country. The hospitality sector, that is, hotels, guides, and vehicle vendors get work opportunities because of these monuments.

To sum up, it is not just the duty of people and governments to safeguard and maintain our monuments, but it is highly beneficial for the economy to preserve these buildings.
