Many advocates that one must convert one’s passions into a career. However, others feel that a career should not be confused with passions or hobbies, and these two can be entirely different, for one’s occupation is only for sustenance. I believe it is great to have one’s passions as one’s job, yet the primary purpose of a career is to ensure earnings.

As mentioned, a person may do wonders in work if he can earn a livelihood from his passions. It is often said that when a person makes his hobby his profession, that individual does not tire quickly. Still, it is impossible to pursue hobbies or passions as careers for most, for a career is pursued for survival rather than looking for fun or gratification at a job.

There may be more reasons it is either inappropriate or challenging to mix passions and jobs. First, most people do not have a fair idea of their primary hobbies or passions till a certain age. Thus, if these people try to pursue their current hobbies as their work, they may make a mistake. It has been observed that some people can not explore their true passions or natural talents till they cross 40 years. However, one must have a source of income to survive and live a life of dignity and independence, for one does not just have to take care of self, and one is also responsible for ensuring the well-being of their family members, which may be impossible in the absence of a decent stream of income.

Some others feel they can earn a lot more working for prominent companies rather than going through a cumbersome process of establishing something that can help them showcase their talents or pursue their hobbies as their jobs. Also, acquiring in-demand skills can pay a lot more than working for an organization that can permit a person to carry on one’s passions as a job.

To sum up, a job is indeed a job, and a career is a career, and it may or may offer us a chance to do what we love to do. Hobbies can be left for spare time too.
