Schools teach history so that students may learn life lessons and appreciate our ancestry. However, history lessons may be tedious, so it is sometimes, believed there should be a focus on studying the local past rather than that of the world. I do not concur with this point of view and shall try to explain my thoughts in the upcoming paragraphs.
History teaches us many lessons and prepares us to face the future with more wisdom. That is why there is an emphasis on teaching history lessons at schools. Generally, these lessons are carefully selected to ensure that everything that should be learned becomes a part of the curriculum. Studying the local past teaches us more about the lineage, and helps us appreciate the struggles and glory of our ancestors. Moreover, the lessons our local history teaches us may be advantageous in our lives, for there are high chances of facing similar issues and attitudes.
However, learning about the world is also vital, for a child must know about its pleasing aspects, challenges, and struggles. It helps explain horizons and think from a broader perspective. No doubt, it adds to the wisdom and knowledge of a person. No one knows when this experience may help a person in the future. Moreover, this knowledge is beneficial when a person travels or moves to another country. Not just this, studying history helps in the overall personality of the person, and sometimes, people are just curious, so they must be taught about world history.
To sum up, learning about local and world history are equally important, for both teach us something; these learnings can be different from each other and help build a complete perspective. The teaching of both thus should be encouraged.
