In many parts of the world, women study science and technology but do not work in these fields. Why is this so? What measures can be taken to encourage women to work in science and technology?

It has been observed that more and more females have been opting for science and technology-related subjects during their studies, yet not as many women are seen in the workforce. A few steps can be taken by families, societies, and the authorities to ensure more feminine participation in the technical fields. This essay aims to discuss the reasons behind this situation and the steps to combat it.

Families and communities must support women when then they get married, for it has been seen that generally, women chose
the science and technology field when they are studying since they get support from their parents. However, when they are married, there is an additional responsibility of managing the home and children. In some cases, there is a lack of support from the life partner or in-laws. Since jobs, especially positions in the technical industry, are highly demanding due to the ever-dynamic nature of technology and highly intricate tasks, and more than normal working hours, women have to either step away from their jobs or slow down their careers by taking breaks. Going back to a job after a long break can be impossible, for many organizations avoid hiring these people.

Solutions are required, for due to this problem, a nation is deprived of many great technical minds. First, families and communities must support a working lady. However, most importantly, if a woman chooses to take a break from her career, she should be welcomed back. Governments must ensure if companies do not abide by it, there must be strict actions against them.

To sum up, technological developments are a cornerstone of a nation’s progress. If women can not or are not allowed to work, the country can not truly progress. Thus, we must analyze the reasons behind this situation and come up with ways around it. A few causes and solutions have been discussed.
