Money is a vital aspect of one’s life, and it is only natural for people to talk about it. However, giving too much attention to money points towards some hidden adverse characteristics of a society and has many severe consequences. First, there is no point discussing one’s sources of earnings and the nature of expenditures on social platforms such as family and friends get-togethers, for this is a personal issue.
Secondly, there can be many deeper topics to discuss. When the interactions are more around money, they signal shallow outlooks and thought processes of the people involved. It has been observed that people ignore more vital subjects like politics, spirituality, community service, and business expansion. These subjects help people grow their perspective and help them think and consider topics beyond their immediate circle. Such discussions can help a person become aware of the world and develop empathy. However, when discussions are mostly regarding material possessions, people tend to become selfish and fail to appreciate matters of deeper worth and consequences. When people keep discussing money, they deprive themselves of talking about and gaining insights into something more meaningful.
To sum up, talking about how people earn and consume their money is not just unproductive, but it also shows that we are money-minded. As a result, people should save themselves from talking too much about finances unless it is of some help to someone.
