Friendships that take place online are not as meaningful as those where people meet each other face to face. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

Some people believe fellowships that start through various social media platforms are ingenuine, while one-on-one friendships have more chances of being authentic. I think there is no such rule, and a friendship between two or more people depends on those people. I shall discuss the various aspects related to this subject.

Connecting humans has been the most vital role played by the internet or social media. People have been striking relationships on the internet. Some people might feel that these friendships are unreal, for people do not know who the other person is. Sometimes, people do not share their identities and pass on false information. For example, a person might try to impress by saying that they are a doctor, while they may not even have passed their school. There is no way one can testify to this information. Another reason some people loathe these friendships is that an online friend may be an interesting person to talk to, but that person may not extend a helping hand when needed, which is what friendship is all about.

However, misguidance, cheating, and betrayal are possible in one-on-one friendships, too. Any relationship can be genuine, and its worth depends on the people involved. The internet and various social media websites have given golden opportunities to numerous people to connect and enter meaningful and fruitful associations, even sacred matrimony. Sometimes people connect with others because they have common intellectual interests like literature, poetry, science, arts, and teaching. These associations or friendships have all the possibilities of being highly fulfilling and purposeful.

To sum up, a friendship between two humans can be beneficial for themselves or others, and it depends on the commitment and sincerity of the people involved. As discussed above, the medium over which a friendship started is immaterial.
