Fewer young people play sports these days. Why is this? What can be done to encourage more young people to do sports?

It has been seen that there has been less inclination in youth towards sports and physical games, which is seen as a negative development. This essay will analyse the reasons behind this development and suggest a few solutions overcome this issue.

A decline in youth’s proclivity towards sports and physical games can be accounted to two main reasons. First, there is a lot of burden of studies and career on young people. One has to face excessive competition in academics and the job world today. One has to focus on studies and work on keeping oneself updated, leaving barely any time for physical activities.
Secondly, today people, especially young people, spend much time watching OTT, browsing the internet, playing computer games, or checking out their social media accounts.

A few steps can be taken by the parents, schools, and governments to encourage youth to engage more in sports. Parents must keep a check on screen time of their children and set aside some time for regular sports activities. Schools must also have mandatory sports periods and frequent intra and inter-school competitions. Furthermore, governments must ensure modern sports amenities and more encouragement for sports people. A government’s incentives can go a long way. Western countries have ample facilities and encouragement from education institutes and governments. Consequently, most children and teenagers devote sufficient time playing sports, and do well in international sports events.

To sum up, there has been a reduction in youngsters spending time on sports due to reasons some of which have been discussed. However, some steps that can be taken to ensure more involvement in sports by the youth have been discussed.
