Despite better access to education, many adults today still can not read or write. In what ways are they disadvantaged? What can governments do to help them?

The education system has become handier, yet many are still illiterate. There are many disadvantages to being uneducated, though governments can take a few steps to help those that are incapable of reading or writing.

An uneducated person has many a disadvantage. First, a lack of education can lead to a person losing confidence or feeling inferior in front of others. They may sometimes fail to take the benefits of opportunities. Such a person may be too shy to talk to people and feel left out in conversations and decisions.
Most importantly, such people find it hard to grab lucrative job opportunities that usually go into the laps of highly educated ones.
Governments do a lot to ensure these people can live a better life. Local and central governments can ensure that there are schools for grown-ups that either wish to study further or those that did not get a chance to go to a school in their childhood. Moreover, the government can ensure that a high-quality education atmosphere and superior quality is imparted at government schools so that the children of uneducated parents may get better quality education. Furthermore, the education system can only be called successful if it can reach remote areas. Governments must ensure that people in remote areas get equal opportunities to study and learn as people in cities.

To sum up, indeed, even though there has been staggering progress in the education system, there has not been much reduction in illiteracy. A few steps that can be taken to improve this situation have been discussed.
