Television broadcasts immense content based on infotainment. As a result, many believe that television broadcasts are a great source for children to attain knowledge, and little ones must be motivated to watch more and more television. I do not concur with this statement.
First, indeed, television brings plenty of enlightening content for us. Fortunately, most of this content is presented in the most captivating way possible. Surely, children can learn much from some of these presentations. However, such series are not too many. Much of the substance served through this electrical medium is full of vulgarity, violence, and shallow discussions. At young age one is not expected to discriminate good content from bad one. Children may be more attracted to useless and toxic content. This material may harm the delicate and impressionable minds of little ones. Secondly, television can be addictive, and children may start spending too much time watching it. Also, watching television is considered hazardous to one’s health. Thus, children can not be allowed to watch a lot of television.
Furthermore, other means can help children gain knowledge without boring them. One such source can be books, so if parents can encourage their children to develop reading as a hobby, children can have great benefits. Most successful people have quoted that the habit of reading has played an instrumental role in the climbing ladder of success. A child could gain wisdom by talking to teachers, parents, and grandparents. So, there is no point in encouraging youngsters to watch more and more television because better alternatives are available.
