Many manufactured food and drink products contain high levels of sugar, which causes many health problems. Sugary products should be made more expensive to encourage people to consume less sugar. Do you agree or disagree?

The food and beverages industry is thriving with the launches of tastier and convenience-oriented food items. Most of these items are loaded with sugar, causing multiple health hazards. Some people believe that making sugar-rich products very costly can be a step towards solving this problem. However, I do not concur with this statement, and the following paragraphs will justify my point of view.

Making highly sweetened eatables more expensive will not solve the problem of excessive consumption of sugary food items, for such kind of food is nearly addictive. Consequently, the people who are fond of these will most probably continue to eat despite being compelled to spend more money. Moreover, since standardization is impossible in this field, there is no way to decide the cost of edibles is high.

Additionally, with the recent boost in the economy, the paying power of people has increased. The higher and higher-middle classes are the biggest purchasers of these items, and these have become a part of their lives. An increase in cost will not deter these people from indulging in their favourite food. Secondly, the price of food can not be increased beyond a limit as it is, after all, food only.

However, some steps can be taken to regulate the consumption of this food, and the most effective is to spread awareness about the possible severe health issues that regular consumption may cause.

In conclusion, the extravagant use of sugar is the cause of numerous bothering diseases and issues in the world: obesity, hypertension, and lethargy. I firmly believe that a price increase can not lower the production, distribution, and intake of sugary food and drinks.
